The African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) is specialized agency of the African Union and a pioneer self monitoring tool for promoting good governance in Africa. Established in 2003 by the New Partnership for Africa (NEPAD), this is a voluntary instrument that offers African States the opportunity to systematically assess and review the state of governance in their country, and thereafter define and implement actions necessary to improving the status quo.
Thus the mechanism provides a platform through which African Union member states that have acceded, share experiences and commendable practices. The ultimate objective is to maintain political stability, improve economic growth, attain sustainable development and accelerate sub-regional and continental growth.
